HILLTOPPERS TAKE ANOTHER STEP VS. CRIMSON OF MO-BEARD

The Lady Hilltoppers took on the Morristown Beard Crimson this past Thursday.  The Varsity played again 3 different lineups as the team looks to solidify its starting lineup for opening day and the JV moved forward as they establish their 3 teams that will cycle to compete throughout the season.

In the opening match, Varsity Set 1 played a fairly solid defensive game but had repeated errors from the service line which proved to be the difference in the set.  Summit generated only 3 aces - all from Angela Scott - and had 6 service errors.  Offensively, the team generated 23 attacks but hit for -.129 as the Hilltoppers mustered only 4 kills. Margo Reigle led the way with 2 kills on only 3 attempts. Although the team passed only at a 1.57,  Angela Scott was the best passer on the team, rating a 2.0 and giving up no aces.  Summit lost set 1 21-25.

Varsity Set 2 team had a better outing as the kill and serving numbers went on the positive side (6k-5err and 5 aces-4err).  Emani Miles led the way from the service line hitting for 3 aces and no errors on 6 attempts.  The team ran a balanced offense with 5 different players getting kills.  Casey Nardino had 2 kills on 4 attempts to lead the team.  Defensively, Gabriela Mejia tallied 4 digs to lead Summit as the team ended with 10 total for the set.  The Hilltoppers passed at a 1.76 rating led by Margo Reigle's 2.75 with 3 of her passes being a perfect 3.  Summit took set 2 25-16.

Varsity Set 3 struggled throughout the set as the serve receive yielded only a 1.47 rating as the receivers gave up 5 aces in the set.  Emani Miles was the highest rated passer with a 2.66.  With the passing not giving the offense a chance to find their rhythm, the team mustered only 1 kill and hit a -.234.  Miles' 2 aces were the only 2 aces for the set.  Summit goes down in set 3 25-17.

The JV SQUAD showed drastic improvement as the preemptive 3 team format played to 3 straight set wins.  The team won set 1 25-16, set 2 25-23 and finished off the Crimson 25-16!

The last scrimmage will be in Colonia this upcoming Tuesday!
