The Lady Hilltoppers took on the Cranford Cougars in the morning matchup -the first of the day- as the team was looking to upend the current Mountain Division leader and undefeated squad.
The home side got out to a good start with an ace by Welsh and a tip kill by N Feuerstake to get out to a 3-1 lead early on. With the score 8-8, Cranford benefitted by 3 consecutive SHS errors to take an 11-8 lead before the visitors failed on a serve to get the ball back to Summit. A block by N Feuerstake and a kill by Herring had the Hilltoppers within one at 11-12 but yet again the Cougars responded with 2 points that forced a Martins TO but the visitors got 2 more points after the TO to go up 16-11. A Cranford service error opened the door for SHS again and N Feuerstake got another kill to get Summit to within 2 at 14-16. Two rotations later the Cougars were still hanging on to a 19-15 lead when A Feuerstake, Welsh, and L Ge twice nailed two spikes to force a Cranford TO as the scoreboard showed 20-10 SHS! The timeout was fruitful for the visitors as they hit for an ace and got a kill to jump out to a 21-20 lead. A Cougar service error and a Basaman ace had SHS up 22-21. A SHS hitting error knotted up the score at 22 but the squad leaned on Senior Herring to bail the squad out and she did not disappoint with a tip kill by Herring which got SHS to a 23-22 lead. A tip error by the Summit Hilltoppers followed up by a Cranford kill had the visitors on the verge of a set one victory but the Hilltoppers fought that off. But then at 24 all the SHS side missed a key serve and Cranford had a 2nd set point at 25-24. A tough serve by the Cougars forced an overpass that was attacked by Cranford but Welsh dug that up and then on the next attack by the Cougars led to a monster Henry dig which led to a kill by A Feuerstake which tied the score at 25. A perfect serve by Henry led to an overpass that Deyonge slammed down for SHS's first set point which forced the Cranford squad into a TO. The Captain Henry then finished up the set with an ace serve which gave the Hilltoppers a 27-25 set one victory.
Set 2 saw the Hilltoppers jump out to a 4-1 lead thanks to a Heary downball kill, a kill by N Feuerstake and Ge and an ace by Welsh. An ace by Handal a few rotations later had the Top up again 8-4 but then Cranford ripped off 6 consecutive points forcing a Martins TO at 10-8 Cranford. The team came off the TO with a perfect pass that led to a Deyonge kill and one point later, the scoreboard read 10-10. The squads could not find much room to breathe as they fought for every point and it was no surprise to see a 15-15 scoreline as Henry went up to serve. N Feuerstake added a kill and big sis A Feuerstake added a tip kill and SHS went up 17-15. Ge dug up a ball and followed it up with a kill to expand the lead to 3 forcing a Cougar TO but the Hilltoppers continued on with a 7-1 run (N Feuerstake kill, Deyonge kill, Welsh kill, N Feuerstake 2 aces) to get to the brink of the victory at 24-16. Despite a break of serve, the Hilltoppers got the set wrapped up with an A Feuerstake kill for the 25-18.
The Hilltoppers outscored the Cougars 41-29 (32 Ks, 2 Block, 7 Aces) for the match

In the last match of the tri-match, Roselle Park was looking to get a win after dropping a tough 2-0 decision to Cranford while SHS was looking for their 6th win on the season and sixth in a row.
An ace by Welsh kicked things off and N Feuerstake added a kill and SHS led 3-0. At 3-2, Summit got its first long run of 6 points with Ge ripping off 2 aces, Herring adding a kill and N Feuerstake smashed a kill and a block to bring the scoreboard to 9-2. At 13-5 SHS ran off another 6 point run that all but sealed the set at 19-5 with Heary clicking on an ace, Nowicka with a kill and Ge 2 aces.
Set 2 was a much tighter affair with both squads knotted up at 9 after a Deyonge kill and an A Feuerstake as we ended rotation 6. A Welsh kill sparked a 3-0 run with Basaman nailing 2 aces but the Roselle Park squad got 2 points back quickly in response to keep the set tight at 12-12. Summit recovered and responded in a big way with a 6-0 run (Welsh ace, Herring kill, N Feuerstake kill) that forced a RP TO but off the pause in the game, SHS ran off another 3-1 run (Herring kill, Ge ace, A Feuerstake kill) to push the lead to 21-13 and essentially seal the set and match victory soon thereafter. RP got as close as 21-16 but SHS closed it out with a 4-1 run (Deyonge 2 kills, A Feuerstake 1 kill) to earn a 2-0 tri-match record and a 6W-1L overall record.
Summit outscored the Panthers 39-15 (28K-1 Block- 10 Aces) for the match and in the tri-match, SHS outscored both teams by a 60-27 kill margin, were outscored 3-7 on the block and held a 17-10 ace advantage for an 80-44 final tally.
