Summit has had its troubles with their opening day opponent, New Providence, in recent history. In 2010, SHS lost both very closely contested matches by 2-1 and 2-0 scores (25-27, 25-21, 21-25 and 22-25, 22-25). In 2011, Summit got 2 wins in its historic season by 2-0 scores (25-13, 25-8 and 25-10, 25-15). The last couple of seasons however, New Providence re-established its dominance with 2-0 wins in 2012, 2013 and 2014 (25-20, 25-17 and 25-15, 25-15 in 2012 and 25-22, 25-11 and 25-15, 25-15 in 2013 and 25-12, 25-16 in 2014).
2014's last match versus the Pioneers of New Providence showed the potential for the Hilltoppers to have a very different season in 2015. Although SHS fell to New Providence in 3 sets, the scores showed the growth of the team (25-18, 13-25 and 21-25) against a top 10 team in the county.
The team will look to set a winning trend this upcoming Wednesday in their home opener versus New Providence.
