KEY ERRORS COST JV VS CRUSADERS

After closing out last week on a 2 game loss to Union, Summit looked to rebound versus the Crusaders of ALJ by focusing on minimizing serving errors and serve receive missteps.  SHS looked like they had done just that until the late stages of each game when the service errors and passing errors proved to be the difference in the match in a 2 game loss to ALJ 25-19, 25-18.

In game 1, both teams were locked in a good battle with neither team committing many errors and the score reflecting the parity of the teams (13-12 SHS) after Bella D'Ambrosi hit for an ace and then saw ALJ get a kill on the next serve.  ALJ took a 15-13 lead but a Maddie Young kill got the ball back to Summit who promptly took the lead at 16-15 behind Katie Samay's serving.  A service error proved to be the end of the run and the beginning of the end for SHS as the next ALJ server rattled off 7 service points (4 aces) to push the Crusaders to a 23-16 lead they would just not relinquish.  Summit lost a few points later 25-19.

In game 2, found themselves up 7-3 early behind Samay's serving (2 aces) but another rotation by ALJ that saw them hit for 3 aces knotted up the score at 8.  Consecutive missed serves by Summit allowed ALJ to open up a lead midway through the match (13-10) when the usually reliable Taylor Thompson stepped up to serve. Unfortunately, Thompson couldn't convert her service attempt and the Crusaders took full advantage, nailing 2 aces in the next service rotation to push their lead to 17-12.
The teams played fairly even the rest of the way (6 points SHS vs. 8 points ALJ) but the combination of missed serves and pass errors at the midpoint of the match was the difference in this match as in each case, a missed serve led to a switch of serve and a rash of passing errors that were the difference in each game.  ALJ took the second game and closed out the match 25-18.

JV is also 2W-3L.
