The 9th Graders hosted the Barrons of Woodbridge for their first action of the year and came away with a 0-3 result although the young Hilltoppers had 20-25 and 22-25 results which were decided by serve receive and serve... Summit showed signs of their ability to score on offense and defensively kept plays alive but the team will continue to improve on its basics off the service line and receive to maximize their point scoring potential.
JV traveled to Woodbridge and dropped a 2-0 decision which saw the Top be ahead or tied through most of the match until the Barrons got around to serve for a second time. The second time through the rotation, SHS struggled with serve receive and found it difficult to match the serving production of the opposition. The team is basically made up of many of last year's 9th graders and will look to improve on Thursday off today's performance.
Varsity also dropped a 3-0 decision to the Barrons but should have taken set 1 as the Top held a 24-19 lead late but unforced errors derailed that set win.
In Set 1, SHS dropped a 26-24 decision, scoring 10 pts (6 k, 1 blk, 3 ace) while Woodbridge hit for 14 points (8k, 1b, 5a) . Summit committed only 3 errors from the service line and had 3 hitting errors to out perform the Barrons who had a combined 12 service and hitting errors in the set.
