LADY JV HILLTOPPERS TAKE 2-0 VS. ALJ CRUSADERS; VARSITY EARNS A 3-0 RESULT IN SCRIMMAGE OPENER

The Lady Hilltoppers opened up the Scrimmage season with a combined 5-0 record versus the ALJ Crusaders at home earlier today.  The JV used a very effective and dominant serving game to take control of each of the two sets and never really looked back.  The Squad will travel to Hazlet tomorrow to take on the Raritan Rockets across all 3 levels as the 9th graders try to start their high school campaign on a positive note and JV and Varsity hope to continue their winning ways.

Varsity took 3 sets from the Crusaders by scores of 25-10,  25-18 and 25-7.  Most players were slated to play in two sets and the setters would play all 3.

In set one,  the Lady Hilltoppers out-scored ALJ 9-4 from the offensive side of the ball and out aced the Blue and White by a 6-2 margin.  The highlight team stats of the set were the 9k and 0 errors on 23 attempts and the serving efficacy of the squad with 22/25 serves in (88%) and 6 aces (a 30% rate).  numbers that were far better than the average last year.

In set two,  SHS outscored ALJ 15 (9k, 6ace) to 7 (4lk, 2ace, 1bl) but the 25-18 scored revealed a higher error rate for the team.  Despite the squad hitting for 9 kills again,  the team also hit for 8 errors out of 22 attempts.  The serving, however, was again a major positive.  The team went 21/24 with 6 aces for a 25% rate.

Summit went on a roll in set 3,  scoring 16 pts. (10k, 6ace) to ALJ's 1. Best part of those numbers was the fact that SHS went 10 kills on 18 attempts with just ONE error.  Add to that a 21/24 serving performance with 6 aces again and you have the recipe for a dominant performance.

Summit served at 87.7% with an ace rate of 24.7%.  SHS hit for a .302 efficiency as a team with a kill % of 44.4%.  The Hilltoppers also serve received fairly efficiently,  giving up only 5 aces over the 3 sets,  passed perfectly (3 rating) 27.6% of all receptions and had a 1.71 pass rating across all sets.
